Dr. Joanna Binch (she/her) is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Health Disciplines at СÓÅÊÓÆµ. She is a primary care nurse practitioner, and community-based researcher. Based in Ottawa, she engages local nurse practitioners in the Ottawa Nurse Practitioner Community of Practice.


Research interests

Dr. Binch’s research streams include health systems research, particularly focusing on the new ; housing and health, with a particular interest in individuals who identify as homeless or marginally housed; and substance use health.

Dr. Binch’s pragmatic approach to research is grounded in her clinical practice experience as a nurse practitioner working with marginalized communities. Dr. Binch draws on social inclusion theory and ecological models with methodological expertise in case study methodology, ethnography, and community-based research.
