Research assistant – casual position

This project will require a student with strong experience in videography and video editing, preferably based in Edmonton. The selected candidate will be responsible for filming lectures, editing the recordings, and uploading the final videos to YouTube.

Accordingly, the primary duties of the Field Research Assistant (Research Assistant 1) will include on-site filming, video editing, uploading content to YouTube, and post-production maintenance.

The successful candidate will work closely with—and report directly to—Dr. Navid Pourmokhtari at СÓÅÊÓÆµ. Dr. Pourmokhtari will provide the necessary background and guidance to ensure the successful completion of the work.

Training on specific video output requirements will be provided; however, applicants must already possess a solid working knowledge of videography, video recording techniques, and video editing.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in videography, including operating cameras, microphones, and basic lighting equipment.
  • Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or similar tools).
  • Experience with video post-production, including editing, sound balancing, color correction, and formatting for online platforms.
  • Familiarity with YouTube content management, including uploading videos, optimizing titles/descriptions, and managing channels.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality audiovisual content.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness and ability to conduct on-site filming in Edmonton, and if required, beyond.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with academic staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience recording lectures, presentations, or academic events.
  • Knowledge of basic graphic design or motion graphics (e.g., Adobe After Effects).
  • Familiarity with copyright considerations and ethical use of recorded material.
  • Access to personal videography equipment is considered an asset (but not required, if you are providing equipment).
  • Interest in academic work, public scholarship, or educational content creation.
