Overview
Labour Studies 411 is the first of two Labour Studies courses (see also LBST 412) that offer advanced students an opportunity to pursue an extended research project under the direction of a supervisor. Students' course of study may involve field, survey, archival, or library research, with the goal of producing a research paper.
This special-projects course helps students to specify and clarify a research topic. Students will be expected to develop comprehensive background knowledge in the topic of their choice.
With the course professor, students develop a study and/or research proposal indicating the goals of the study, the procedures for evaluation, and the time to completion. A major research paper and comprehensive bibliography will be expected in partial fulfillment of the course requirements.
Evaluation
To receive credit for LBST 411, students must successfully complete all of the course assignments and achieve a course composite grade of at least D (50 percent)or higher. The evaluation criteria for each assignment will be discussed and negotiated with the supervisor.
