Overview
In MHST/NURS 602, we will examine a number of emerging informatics technologies and processes. We will describe ways in which the technologies and processes could transform health care, and will then consider issues and concerns related to the application of the technologies and processes.

Learning outcomes
MHST/NURS 602 is designed to assist the student to:
- Identify and describe ways in which emerging informatics technologies and processes can transform health care.
- Identify issues related to the application of emerging informatics technologies and processes.
- Strategize solutions to address these issues.
- Apply concepts of data protection to emerging informatics technologies and processes.
- Propose ways in which emerging informatics technologies and processes could address health care delivery concerns in the workplace.
Evaluation
In the MHS and MN:Gen programs, students must achieve an overall program GPA of 2.7 ( B- or 70 per cent), to graduate. The minimum passing grade requirement for each MHS and MN:Gen course is .

Website Evaluations
In this assignment students are required to evaluate a group of health information websites, critically appraising the quality of the information from a perspective of a health care consumer. Assessment of the assignment will focus on the student's degree of familiarity with key concepts and principles in website evaluation, evidence of analysis and critical appraisal of the selected websites, clarity of presentation, and the depth of the assessment using the website evaluation criteria selected for the assignment.
Conference Participation
Feedback on your participation in the conference will be ongoing as well as summative. Keep in mind that it is the quality, not the quantity, of your submissions that is the goal. Feedback will focus on your ability to provide organized and original contributions that reflect analysis and synthesis of the material presented.
Collaborative Working Group Presentations
The collaborative working group presentation requires students in small groups to develop and deliver material on a topic that builds on the course content. The working group presentations occur during weeks ten, eleven, and twelve of the term. Feedback on the collaborative group work will be given based on Organization, Content, Collaboration, Discussion Management, and Originality.
Final Paper
The final assignment in this course requires students to develop a discussion/background paper on a proposed health informatics application that would transform the delivery of healthcare services in a defined area of practice (e.g., your workplace or another a health care organization). In this paper, students will describe a clinical or operational challenge and propose a health informatics application to address this challenge. Included in the paper will be a literature review based on the implementation of similar applications in health care as well as steps and strategies for implementation and to address relevant issues. Assignment feedback will reflect assessment of Content, Organization/Presentation, Expression/Diction, and Writing Mechanics.
