Overview
NURS 533: NP: Adult Health II is part of the Master of Nursing: Nurse Practitioner (MN-NP) degree and the Post-Masters Diploma: Nurse Practitioner (PMD-NP) program.
In NURS 533, you will learn to manage common acute and chronic conditions in adult clients across a variety of settings. The role of the NP in virtual care, end-of-life care, and the management of emergent and complex clients is also addressed.
Outline
NURS 533 is a paced course delivered over 13 weeks using a blended learning approach that combines asynchronous online learning and regular synchronous virtual sessions.
Course content focuses on the continued development of competencies required for the management of adult health conditions, with increasing complexity and clinical decision-making. Emphasis is placed on the following:
- Management of common and complex acute and chronic conditions across body systems
- Principles of oncology and palliative and end-of-life care
- Clinical decision-making in emergent and high-acuity situations
- Care of older adults and consideration of age-related changes and comorbidities
- Delivery of care across settings, including virtual care
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Analyze and synthesize clinical data from multiple sources to inform diagnoses and management of adult clients;
- Differentiate urgent and emergent presentations in adults and initiate appropriate interventions;
- Assess the unique health needs of older adults and incorporate these considerations into clinical decision-making and management planning;
- Prescribe and counsel clients on pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions in adult populations, including monitoring for effectiveness and adverse effects;
- In collaboration with the client, evaluate and adjust management plans based on client response and clinical outcomes to identify required modifications or termination of treatment;
- Examine ways to support the client’s wishes and directions related to advance care planning, and palliative and end-of-life care;
- Apply key considerations in the delivery of virtual care, including clinical, ethical, and safety factors;
- Assess and manage common acute, chronic, and complex adult health conditions across care settings.
Evaluation
Assessment in NURS 533 consists of multiple course activities with assigned percentage weightings. Your final grade is based on overall performance across all required assessments. A variety of assessment approaches are used to evaluate achievement of the course learning outcomes.
